Lasted over 3 years on one set of batteries!
I just checked to see when I purchased this. It was early 2013. At that time I bought a box of batteries (it takes 4) but the box was 8. I just replaced the original batteries 4 months ago so that about 3 years on the set of batteries. I replaced the deodorizing filter probably about twice a year which seems to be about right. Just last weekend after a get together at the house and some people not realizing the touchless system, were lifting the lid manually, which should be fine and if you move away from the unit, it should close after a few seconds. This wasn't happening and so I turned it off/on, removed and replaced the batteries.. strange things happen now. Sometimes it opens but doesn't close. Other times it doesn't open at all but pushing the button does open but closing requires you give it a small push to get it going. I'm thinking the logic in the hing mechanism is likely the problem and so here I am looking for a possible replacement. I love this unit as it is described as a 13 gallon unit and I use the 14 gallon Kirkland kitchen bags. Now to replace this with the same unit would make some sense since I think I have done pretty well, having it for almost 4 full years without any problems. But I'm on the fence on the newer design that uses the rolling drawer closure instead of a lid which would likely help with the issues I am currently witnessing. However the scrolling drawer poses some other issues as well. Reading the reviews on this other model don't really go in to detail on any of this and knowing how good this one is/was I'll probably buy the same unit.
The stainless steel finish is very nice and easy to keep clean. No complaints whatsoever with this unit as I knew the door hinge (the only moving parts) would eventually go. I am just so surprised how long the first set of batteries lasted. For those thinking of getting the power adapter. Unless you are getting it for under $10 and know that the unit will be placed right next to an outlet then go for it, but to be honest, having spent about $10 on 8 batteries over 3 years ago and knowing the 4 that are in it would probably last another 2 years, I am quite happy staying 'wireless'
